Cabaret as a coping strategy
In her third stage show, “Ding Dong,” Eva Karl Faltermeier stays true to her style as she shares her sociopolitical observations with her audience. The inspiration for this often comes from her background and the twists and turns life has thrown her way—these provide the perfect starting point for drawing broader conclusions. Once again, her stage persona confronts the multiple challenges of everyday life, caught between unattainable social norms and cultural roots; an emotional tug-of-war that can provoke a sense of powerlessness. This powerlessness is the powerlessness of many. And to free herself from it, Eva Karl Faltermeier crafts stories with humor.
Her great art lies in presenting oddities and the most serious topics with a wink. Laughter as a coping strategy—about time, upheavals, and goals; what one misses, what one has, and where one is headed. In the end, what remains is the confidence that everything is somehow possible. No one ever spoke of perfection.
In recent years, Eva Karl Faltermeier has quickly made a name for herself on the scene, receiving and presenting awards, appearing on and hosting television shows. But the heart of her artistic work remains her live performances, when she performs for her audience with passion and dedication. An artist you can’t help but love.
