The Ghanaian-Georgian artist collective La Caoba is moving into the kiosk for two weeks.
Earth Democracy focuses on ecological restoration and sustainable community—it creates spaces where people and the environment can grow together. Their plan: communal meals, performances, and interventions on Maximilianstraße.
Earth Democracy is a research-based artistic and social project inspired by Dr. Vandana Shiva’s observation that cultures of greed are sustained through systems of competition. The project critically reflects on how dominant economic and social structures encourage extraction, accumulation, and ecological harm, often undermining collective wellbeing and environmental sustainability.
Through an interdisciplinary and participatory approach, Earth Democracy explores alternative practices grounded in care, cooperation, and ecological responsibility. The project engages with local ecosystems connected to food production, community care, and sustainable living, using Munich as a site for research, exchange, and public interaction.
The research unfolds through a series of participatory actions and public interventions. These include visits to local markets to examine food networks and community exchange systems, and an interactive installation at the Habibi Kiosk that invites dialogue around sustainability and shared resources. The project also presents SUPRA NATURAL, a performative dinner inspired by the Georgian Supra tradition, reimagining communal eating as a space for storytelling, knowledge-sharing, and collective reflection.
Additionally, the project organizes an epicycle clothing market where redesigned second-hand garments are offered to the public, promoting circular economies and sustainable fashion practices. A public performance walk along Maximilianstraße, featuring discarded clothes tied together into a continuous chain, serves as a visual and symbolic gesture addressing consumption, waste, and interconnected responsibility.
Through these actions, Earth Democracy invites audiences to reflect on the relationships between ecological systems, cultural practices, and economic structures, while collectively imagining more just and sustainable ways of living.
