Reading and discussion with Zeit journalist August Modersohn about a journey through the Federal Republic of Germany
How has our country changed since reunification? What has happened in Duisburg since Helmut Kohl announced the great awakening, and what in Lusatia? Reporter August Modersohn travels from west to east, from south to north. He compares what began 35 years ago with what has emerged since then. For it is often overlooked how much not only the east, but the whole country has changed in a generation: the old Federal Republic is history – memories of it often sound like fairy tales from ancient times. How much – too much? – has remained old in the west? But also: what has been abolished in the east and is now missing?
August Modersohn visits areas that have changed particularly dramatically and those that have remained completely untouched (and unmoved) by the transformation. As a reporter without preconceived notions, he explored this new country and talks to us about it at Habibi Kiosk.
