Let’s welcome the new year. Do we have something to celebrate, or are we simply coming together in love and resistance? As we write this announcement, none of this is clear. Perhaps some of you will not be in the mood to celebrate. We would like to encourage you to come together anyway. Because solidarity can also be danced.

We are planning a concert by the Kurdish-Iranian tanbur maestro Mohammad Mostafa Heydarian. He is coming especially for you from Kermanshah, West Iran/Kurdistan.

And there will be DJ sets: DJ İpek from Berlin is a legend of multicultural sound and always knows what to do. When she plays, the heavens open. Especially when, as today, she focuses on Kurdish music. Host Booty Carrell doesn’t so much step on the gas as he does on the tear ducts: dancing and crying is the motto of his special DJ sets featuring pre-revolutionary Persian pop from the 1970s, played from rarely seen, pleasantly crackling original records. This is the last form of pop culture to come out of Iran to date. And that’s where its significance comes from, shared by generations in the diaspora. And then there’s DJ Darismus from Munich. His global Azeri-Afghan-Iranian music mix leaves no one cold. Promise.
