A discussion about the situation of minorities in Syria after the fall of Assad, moderated by Suzan Çakar
Suzan “Sue” Çakar’s talk format at Habibi Kiosk sees itself as part of a post-migrant cultural landscape: artistic, low-threshold, and permeable. “Auf einen Mokka mit Sue” (Over a mocha with Sue) combines culture with attitude—as a conversation, as a performative moment, and as an invitation to think further together.
In this edition, Sue talks to Maya Azzam. Maya, born in Suwayda in 2005, grew up in Syria before fleeing to Germany at the age of 11. Her family dreamed of an end to the Assad dictatorship, but after the massacres and violence against minorities in Syria, especially against the Druze in her hometown, she realized that change would not be easy. Today, Maya uses her voice in Germany to draw attention to the humanitarian crisis in Syria and combat misinformation.
Maya gives us an insight into the situation of minorities in Syria after the fall of Assad. It will be a Mokka about resistance, hope, and the importance of solidarity—and above all, about the voices of those who are often not heard.
