Teatr 21 is back in Munich! Following the huge success of Libido Romatico at the All Abled Arts Festival, we are looking forward to Seven Cruel Stories. Inspired by Sunaura Taylor’s book ‘Beasts of Burden: Animal and Disability Liberation’, the play tells seven short stories about the relationship between humans and animals: Goya meets Picasso and suddenly understands his animal paintings in a new way. Courageous cows cross boundaries, while freedom-loving flower children dare to experiment on non-human beings.

This project is co-financed by the Minister of Culture and National Heritage of the Republic of Poland from the Culture Promotion

Press reviews

“The creators of ‘Seven Cruel Stories’ play freely with themes of disability and deafness, sometimes leaving them behind entirely, allowing the actors simply to be actors. It’s wonderful to see a performance where artists with disabilities aren’t defined solely by that aspect of identity.”

“This is a performance worth talking and writing about — one that should return to the stage as often as possible. It challenges the audience, awakens their senses, surprises and overwhelms them. I leave thoughtful, astonished, and moved — yet filled with hope. Perhaps humanity is not entirely lost after all. ‘Seven Cruel Stories’ was created, staged, and received a standing ovation. Some sensitivity remains within us (…)”
