Chanukka X House of Diaspora

On the shortest and darkest day of the year, the Institute for New Social Sculpture invites you to a special double event that combines urban rituals, nocturnal perception and Hanukkah. The entire evening will be accompanied and framed by drag queen and opera singer Mazy Mazeltov.

In the first part, Israeli-Berlin artist Alona Rodeh takes us on a night walk through the English Garden. Together with the audience, she explores the sensory and cultural dimensions of darkness in urban spaces. The night walk is accompanied by Israeli author and scholar Mor Kadishzon, who deepens the theme of light and darkness with her poetic and philosophical perspectives. The night walk will be held in English. Translation assistance is available.

After the walk, Mazy Mazeltov will lead the audience to the Munich Kammerspiele theatre. There, a contemporary interpretation of the ceremonial lighting of candles on the occasion of Hanukkah will be celebrated together with all guests present. Instead of traditional candles, the light will be made visible in a different way. The ceremonial part will be held in German.
