“Beauty in rupture, beginning in not knowing” — Two workshops on narrative formats in German post-war cinema and anti-Semitic, anti-Gypsy and anti-disability continuities in the Federal Republic of Germany

On both days, participants will devote themselves to German post-war film in two workshops. In the first workshop, ‘Schönheit im Bruch, Anfang im Nichtwissen’ (Beauty in Rupture, Beginning in Ignorance), HFF students and the makers of ‘Blickpunkte’ will explore the narrative forms of German post-war film and the gaps in the tradition. In the workshop ‘Sohrab Shahid Saless and the German post-war film’, the workshop participants will approach the film ‘Hans - Ein Junge in Deutschland’ (1985) with the author, director, actor, musician and professor at the Munich University of Television and Film Tucké Royale. The workshop will examine different ways of dealing with German post-war realities and explore Sohrab Shahid Saless’ film work with text and image material in West Germany. Afterwards, the film will be shown at a public screening in the Therese-Giehse-Halle and commented on by Tucké Royale.

Program
Glasspitz, meeting point at the stage entrance, Falckenbergstraße 2
Fr 7.11., 4pm – 7pm Uhr
„Schönheit im Bruch, Anfang im Nichtwissen“
By & With: Marvin Krause, Gretel Ribka, Daya Sieber

In the first workshop “Schönheit im Bruch, Anfang im Nichtwissen”, HFF students and the makers of “Blickpunkte” will explore the narrative forms of German post-war film and the gaps in the tradition. Together, the participants will build a “space of experience” in which early HFF student films from the post-war period will become visible as fragments. Not as completed works or historical documents, but as starting points for a different way of seeing and asking questions.

Sa 8.11., 10am – 2pm Uhr
“Sohrab Shahid Saless and the German post-war film”
By & With: Tucké Royale

In the workshop “Sohrab Shahid Saless and the German post-war film”, the author, director, actor, musician and professor at the Munich University of Television and Film Tucké Royale approaches the film “Hans - Ein Junge in Deutschland” (1985). The Iranian filmmaker Sohrab Shahid Saless, who lives in the West German diaspora, succeeds in spanning a narrative on anti-Semitic continuities in West Germany over two and a half hours. The workshop questions the different conditions for dealing with German post-war realities and explores Sohrab Shahid Saless' filmmaking with text and image material in West Germany.
