The exhibition “Mittelschule” sheds light on the school as a public institution for socially disadvantaged young people from Generation Z, who are growing up in a world that is heavily influenced by social media. The photographs by Sima Dehgani are the result of several workshops and encounters with the 9th year of the secondary school at Winthirplatz 6.
The focus is on the everyday lives and experiences of young people in a phase of their adolescence. It is about documentary insights into everyday school life as well as discussions and workshops in which the young people are invited to deal with their self-presentation in the real and virtual world. Supported by make-up artist Alyssia Achille, among others, they can stage themselves in front of the camera and are thus independently involved in their portrayal. The aim is to capture the feelings that go hand in hand with exploring one’s own identity - in digital and real space.
