Hello, Body!

Following “Habitat – Pandemic Version” and “In Ordnung”, Doris Uhlich is finally returning to the Münchner Kammerspiele for the 2025/26 season. In her pieces, the Austrian choreographer questions common preconceptions about dance and body image and invites people onto the dance floor whose bodies are usually hidden, ignored or denigrated in public life. So far, she has worked with people with various disabilities, a former ballerina and homeless people, making no distinction between ‘professional’ dancers and non-professionals. Her pieces often show naked bodies in ways that go beyond simple eroticisation and provocation and thus, in an age of surgical and genetic perfection, become a celebration of the ‘imperfect’. In 2024, she received the Austrian Art Prize for her internationally recognised artistic work.

For the Kammerspiele, Doris Uhlich – who also works as an intimacy coordinator for feature films – embarks with the ensemble on a search for fluidity in Munich. How can physical boundaries and binaries be dissolved? How can interpersonal intimacy be created and maintained in a harsh and rigid world? Doris Uhlich believes in the power of the group and that theatre not only proclaims change, but can also make it happen.

“I deliberately made the decision ten years ago to sign up for a workshop with Doris. My intuition was proved right: this experience of profound freedom became a path for me – and not just professionally … When you experience the moment of absolute trance as you’re working on a piece – that’s really something!”
