Little puppet made from pinewood, wake up!

In 1881, the novelist Carlo Collodi invented the now world-famous character and named him Pinocchio, or ‘Pine Eye’. This wooden puppet has learned a lot from the ‘fellow trees’ he used to be with: he is generous, curious and devoid of fear. The boy made of wood forsakes his home for a grand adventure which he hopes will end in him becoming a ‘real boy’. Along the way, he encounters a whole host of fantastic characters – some more and some less trustworthy. What trials and tribulations must Pinocchio endure on the road, what does he lose on his solitary journey and how do his connections to his wondrous surroundings shape him? Working with the writer Sophia Al Maria, the Moved by the Motion group centred around Wu Tsang, Tosh Basco, Josh Johnson and Asma Maroof explore the poetic and philosophical aspects of the novel and condense them into a fantastical world of movement, poetry, virtual reality and music in which children and adults alike can immerse themselves.

“Pinocchio” is the play that is introducing the group to Munich audiences. The production originated at the Schauspielhaus Zürich and is being restaged with the Kammerspiele ensemble.
