Awesome Tapes From Africa meets Hans Nieswandt im TAM TAM Tanztreff

From blog to label to dancefloor. The New York DJ enriches our lives with his crates of rewound cassettes, mixing folk pop, dancefloor gems and hip-hop bangers, all from the African continent. Ranging from clubs to festivals to DIY spaces, Awesome Tapes’ DJ sets celebrate the music and musicians whose tapes Brian Shimkovitz has collected over the years. In 2011, ATFA evolved into a critically acclaimed label, re-releasing records by African artists such as Ata Kak, Dur-Dur Band, Hailu Mergia and Penny Penny. His DJ sets on two cassette decks lead into deep, regional sounds. It doesn’t just sound unique - it is. It’s hard to believe that he is playing in Munich for the first time this evening.
Which is more than you can say for Hans Nieswandt. Except that his DJ sets are now a rarity in this country. The legendary DJ, producer and author now lives in a different time zone and brings us what’s on his mind there at the moment. And that, we can already say, is nothing but stunning music.
