Awesome Tapes From Africa Music Kiosk

What began as a music blog in 2006 has quickly developed from a respected music label to a seal of quality to a real career catapult. Brian Shimkovitz can perhaps tell as much about sustainable and fair music production as he can about his great passion: curiosity about cassettes from the African continent from all countries and genres. And curiosity about the people behind them. He got to know many of them, and was able to help some of them gain international attention with his label. He has tirelessly traveled the world. He plays celebrated DJ and TJ sets with meticulously rewound original cassettes. Tip: One of them will be played at Werk*raum after this event. He runs a “Listening and Learning Center” in his adopted home of Berlin. And at Habibi Kiosk, he will be hosting a living room-style listening session in conversation with Sebastian Reier. Osagie Airen alias Ellisprincewhite will also be there: the Afrobeat musician came to Munich from Nigeria and has become an integral part of the local scene. He will tell us himself how he views the nostalgia of recordings as a contemporary pop musician. Maybe he’ll even get up from the sofa and perform one of his own songs? It promises to be a fun evening.
