Positions Contemporary presents a narrative listening session on a special book
Björn Gottstein’s book “The Sound of the Present” attempts nothing less than to provide a complete overview of new music, aka contemporary composition - in pocket format. He succeeds in creating a captivating, fascinating musical journey of discovery. It is giftedly narrated and accessible at all times. Gottstein doesn’t just present works, he takes us into the minds of their composers and their contemporary environment. Where did the urge to make new music sound atonal come from? What role did the post-war period play in the creation of these new sounds? At the Habibi Kiosk, he will not only talk about his book, but also share music with us.
Positionen Contemporary is presented in collaboration with Positionen - Texte zur aktuellen Musik, the largest independent magazine in the German-speaking world, which builds bridges between academic discourse and cultural journalism.
