Exhibition with works by Andrea Hygino, Jutta Burkhardt, Monica Hirano, Maddox Pratt, Sara Kontar, Rusha
Hair salons are places for hair care and transformation. They can also become a place where people open up about their lives. A place that exists in the intersection between public and private life, encouraging openness and dialogue.
With that in mind, the project aims to bring conversations about hair and identity into our everyday lives through an art exhibition, performances, personal stories, panel discussions, and even live haircuts done by AMBA Hair.
Throughout history, hair has been a significant social marker. The way we style our hair often reflects our background, personality, and whether we choose to conform to or challenge societal expectations. However, it also exposes us to the stereotypes, biases, and prejudices tied to hair and identity.
By challenging us to reflect on unconscious biases we may perpetuate, we wish to reflect on the following questions: How much do we connect our self-worth to our physical appearance, and more specifically, to our hair? How much does our appearance shape the way others see us? What are the problematic implications behind the widespread belief in a singular, Western-driven ideal of beauty?
The exhibition will be open from Monday to Saturday from 14:00 to 20:00.
