A collective test drive with texts by Sunan Gu & Louisa Sausner
“There it is, our future. It is equipped with the best engine, and the latest tires, deep tread, so that it only ever goes forwards, always forwards, never backwards.” — Alles über Autos is a play about people who depend on the automotive industry, about generational differences and existential fears, the increasing irrelevance of combustion engines and about climate protection. A road trip through our motorized society.
The world’s luck is behind the wheel of a car. And it races along the German autobahn at 250 km/h. The car is more than just a transportation vehicle. It is a way of life, the pride and joy of a nation. But is the dream of the car still possible today? As the climate crisis worsens and new technologies slowly push old ones out of the market, jobs are still being pitted against environmental protection.
Sunan Gus and Louisa Sausner’s texts humorously combine criticism of the automotive industry with empathy for the living spaces that depend on it. Based on a factory hall at a standstill, Everything About Cars explores what can happen when crisis management is suspended and coping begins. A moment of calm opens up the space for a recalibration of the system. Textual set pieces, based on personal memories and interviews with employees in the automotive industry, are assembled into a very unique history of the car.
