Living room music talks at the Habibi Kiosk are long because they dig deep into musical and social topics. And sometimes a little live music is played on the sofa. It’s actually like radio, except that the audience and broadcasters sit in the same room.

We would particularly like to recommend this evening to you. Because even those who dig through sound archives rarely find it: Kurdish-language music is marginalized, banned, ignored. Far too often, its music production only became possible in the diaspora. It rarely found its way onto official sound carriers such as records.

This contrasts with its fundamental importance, radiance and power of identification for Kurds worldwide. And times have changed: YouTube and streaming make today’s pop accessible. But if you want to delve into Kurdistan’s rich musical history, you will come across gaps and, at best, hard-to-get and expensive records.

Today we are making this music accessible and listening to it together. Our guests Cemile Dinçer and Ahmedo from Hamburg are not only rising stars of the Anatolian music scene in Europe. They also have a lot of rarely heard records in their luggage, as well as plenty of stories and musical instruments. They switch back and forth between all this in free association and chat with our vinyl archaeologist Sebastian Reier.
