An artistic sweeping blow to put the horror of our time in its place
Everyday horror is our social horror. Daddy makes his cross on the right now? Horror. Parents visiting in a small town? Horror. Cousin likes to eat families? Horror. Hair in the drain? Horror. Donalds and Elons taking power? Fake news? Wars? Smombies? Horror! Horror when the masters of politics cancel culture! Misanthropy, factory farming, stone in the shoe? Don’t get us started!
Once the horror work is over, the news comes on: horror is raging everywhere. We have correspondingly bad dreams. Horror writes itself into our bodies, the horror world becomes a constant companion in everyday life. But it is also a nightmare world that we all learn to fear as children.
We invite you to the Werk*raum to counteract this numbness. We’re going to go for an artistic all-round show, analyze the horror and scare it. This evening is ambitious - and the cast is correspondingly high-caliber:
Nadina Memagić and Elias Krischke read texts from Barbi Marković’s magnificent short story collection Minihorror (Residenz Verlag 2023), “an impossible book” according to the Austrian newspaper Falter.
No one can invent such bizarre stories and then write them in such weird sentences. No one except Barbi Marković”.
Performance artist Milena Wohjan explores the last forms of Maximilian Street horror.Exactly where wealth mutates into a pus dream. And Dr. Nahlah Saimeh, Germany’s most prominent forensic psychiatrist, will be on hand to explore the topic scientifically.Gina Penzkofer, Sophie Eisenried and Sebastian Reier will host the evening. We listen to horror cassettes from his collection of fossil recordings.
