Who was the exceptional actress Therese Giehse? Can she still be a role model for us today? And how can we meet her? We will spend a weekend exploring Therese Giehse in all her facets and let her inspire and empower us. Our cooperation partner is the Monacensia, whose literary archive will give us an insight into Therese Giehse’s partial estate.

Fr, 7.3.

"Performing the Archive"
Workshop: Getting to know and gaining insights into Therese Giehse's partial estate in the Monacensia archive with Felicitas Friedrich

Therese Giehse was an actress on stage all her life. There she shaped a multitude of roles and wrote theater history. However, as an art of presence, theater is a fleeting experience. What if you never experienced Giehse on stage?
Today, the Monacensia archive contains part of Therese Giehse's estate. Here her afterlife is packed away in boxes and folders, Giehse's personal and artistic legacy can be found in production photos, newspaper articles, program booklets, notebooks and calendar entries. With what interests do we look at these materials today? What kind of performance does the afterlife of an actress have? Felicitas Friedrich, dramaturge and cultural mediator at the Monacensia, provides insights into the archive as a performative place of memory.

Sa, 8.3.
11am to 5pm
“I am not a criminal”
Workshop: A performative approach to Therese Giehse with Anne Sophie Kapsner

There are numerous themes in the persona of There Giehse that can be empowering and inspiring for us today: Therese Giehse as a woman who asserted herself in the theater landscape, Therese Giehse's political activity, her queerness, Therese Giehse as a role model for a lively, child-free life, Therese Giehse as Butch, Therese Giehse's body (lichkeit), Therese Giehse as a Jew, Therese Giehse as a mother on stage.

Together we will search for what interests and inspires each individual workshop participant and develop scenes, performative approaches, texts or short videos based on images and quotes. A selection of workshop results will be shown at the gala for Giehse in the evening.

In Kooperation mit der Monacensia im Hildebrandhaus.
