Reading of the book by Mehdi Moradpour with live drawing
“’nature’ is an inscrutable,
aimless beast, but turned towards us”
- from “a body without a place” by Mehdi Moradpour
Under pressure from his partner, Elijah undergoes a sex change operation in his home country of Iran. His influential cousin Mela, who works in the oil industry, helps him. For Elija, it is a survival strategy, as homosexuality and bisexuality are drastically punished, while sex changes are tolerated. But his partner leaves him and Elija wants out of this new body, out of a family and a state that use violence to determine desire and belonging. In a friendly threesome with Mela and Fanis, Elija sets off for Europe to get closer to his longing for an organic and technical expansion of the body.
Mehdi Moradpour uses visually powerful and fast-paced language to create a scenario in which the atmospheres of cityscapes, seascapes and dreamscapes penetrate the bodies and override clear contours. Utopian and technological longings meet harsh laws, individuals in dissolution meet medical tribunals.
Anna Gesa-Raija Lappe, Samira Isa Benhane and Christian Löber will read from “ein körper ohne ort” at the Habibi Kiosk - accompanied by live drawings by Giovanna Bolliger, who also created illustrations for the book.
