Book presentation with reading and discussion, hosted by Dîlan Z. Çapan
In the third edition of the “Literatur:Raum” series, author and composer Fabian Saul will be a guest at the Werk*raum for a reading and discussion of his debut novel “Die Trauer der Tangente” (2024). Members of the Münchner Kammerspiele ensemble will read with him.
Fabian Saul’s novel reads like a “tender exploration of loss”: a friend dies, a love breaks up. In a world where the stones speak of the past, the protagonist encounters his own feelings in the topography. In cinematic scenes of poetic power, shared cigarettes stand here like pictures next to the sunlight on a morning in Nida, the clear edges of Jean Genet’s gravestone stand next to a condemned house in Linienstraße, Nina Simone’s last concert stands next to the songs from the wall. Every memory tells of the possibility of a different future: of traces of resistance to the violence of the one, grand narrative. And with every memory, every image, something tender and new emerges, searching for a place of empathy and solidarity at the abyss of contact.
Fabian Saul, born in 1986, is an author, composer and editor-in-chief of the award-winning magazine Flaneur. The magazine, which dedicates each issue to one of the world’s streets, pursues a collaborative and interdisciplinary approach that is also reflected in Saul’s work. In addition to his writing, he also works as a composer and songwriter. His music is released under his stage name SAUL. His work has been awarded the Alfred Döblin Medal, the Roger Willemsen Foundation Scholarship and the Harald Gerlach Scholarship, among others.
The “Literatur:Raum” series deals intensively with current literary trends. Author and director Dîlan Z. Çapan invites exciting authors to talks and poetically stages new texts. Alternating between the Werkraum and the Habibi Kiosk.
