With Julian Klaas, Ralph Heidel, San Quentin & Sister Clara
The alternative concert and party series is back at the Werk*raum!
Julian Klaas is a multi-instrumentalist living in Munich. Last year he released his instrumental debut album “Impromptu” (Squama Rec.), which – inspired by the potential of the Wurlitzer piano – mixes piano and Wurlitzer sounds in an unexpected, playful way. The classically trained violinist previously produced organic electronic music under the name Plateau Green and released his debut EP “The Arch of Our Eye’s Orbit” in 2017. Rather by chance, he took over his sister’s piano and began a journey of exploration and improvisation that became an (all-)daily ritual. The result is “Impromptu”, a collection of 12 improvisations for Wurlitzer, piano and tape, on which Klaas takes a restrained approach, giving space to the simple elements of lush melodies, tape loops and deliberate glitches to explore the magic of fleeting moments. In a similar vein, an album of improvisations for saxophone and Wurlitzer piano has been created with Ralph Heidel over the last few years. In the Werkraum, Julian Klaas will present “Impromptu” live and, together with Ralph Heidel, give a first insight into the as yet unpublished joint work.
Ralph Heidel is a Berlin based producer, composer, and multi instrumentalist. In his own music he presents a very original sound, that is affected by multilayered saxophones, intimate piano themes and organic electronic beats. Heidel creates spheres in which his and our all feelings find a room and a home. He accomplishes drafting complex moods and scapes very rich in detail without naming them. After his debut album, that he wrote for string quartet and rhythm section and the more electronic solo record „RELIEF“, he released his latest album „MODERN LIFE“. His great ability of shifting in a rich diversity of genres brought him to work with a wide range of different artists, such as Casper, All diese Gewalt, Apsilon, Alli Neumann, Carlos Cipa, Finn Ronsdorf, Ben Bazzazian and Lisa Morgenstern.
San Quentin likes offbeat club music and releases on labels such as Dionysian Mysteries, Mosaique Records and Alternative Fakten. He likes to play long sets, with styles ranging from ambient and krautjazz to acid and trippy techno.
To make sure everything runs smoothly, Portuguese performance artist Fabiola will be blessing the TAM TAM TREPPENBAR as Sister Clara.
