#2: Guilt, shame and silence
Talk & music with Burak Yılmaz, Hannah Saar, Anja Signitzer & MADANII
Full speed ahead into the potential for conflict!
The second edition of Burak Yılmaz’s new series deals with the question of how we can communicate history in a pluralistic society and in the digital age. How can we bring history to our own doorstep and into our own families?
Burak Yılmaz is an author and podcaster. He grew up in Duisburg, post-migrant. His educational path - elite Catholic high school, Koran school, university - crosses milieus. In response to anti-Semitism in his youth center, he organizes trips to Auschwitz with Muslim teenagers. He wrote about his experiences in his book “Ehrensache. Fighting against Jew-hatred”. In the “Late Night Real Talk” on 22.11., actress Anja Signitzer will read from Burak’s book and Hannah, artistic director of Werk*raum, will talk to Burak about emotional legacies and the question: What does German history have to do with me?
Musically, the genre rebel MADANII intervenes throughout the evening. As the daughter of political refugees, MADANII weaves rhythms, languages, politics, forms and sounds into a new kind of musical and visual mosaic. In her music, MADANII tells an autobiographical story of being different, of not belonging and of being torn between cultures, cross-generational dreams, political absurdities and queer love - all of which is reflected in a unique style that combines influences from avant-pop, alternative R&B and trap. Her unmistakable style has already earned her comparisons with artists such as Sevdaliza, FKA Twigs and Rosalía.
