Screening of the documentary REAS by Lola Arias
On October 15, the QFFM | Queer Film Festival Munich invites all lovers of queer cinema to the Schauspielhaus at the Münchner Kammerspiele to celebrate new films that explore perspectives and narrative forms beyond the hetero- and homonormative canon. The main event of the evening will be the screening of this year’s opening film REAS by Lola Arias. At the subsequent champagne reception in the foyer, all guests will have the opportunity to talk to community representatives, jury members and curators - and above all to each other.
About the movie (1 hour 22 minutes)
Collective and empowering musical reenactment of a queer prison narrative, beyond stigmatization.
Yoseli ends up in a women’s prison on suspicion of drug trafficking. From the very first day, it is clear that she is not going through this experience alone, she is now part of a collective. The result is a queer and communal reappraisal of loving and violent experiences. Reas assigns them to a non-linear and visually fascinating cinematic construct that weaves gentle, entertaining and empowering bonds between the performers and reworks their memories of love, friendship, creativity and violence through dance and music.
The cis and trans performers play themselves for the most part. Director Lola Arias not only tells of queer community in her film, but her creative process itself is a prime example of what queer creative collaboration can mean. Reas is fun, moving, empowering and shows one thing above all: we remember, love and create best together.
