Theater in Russian and German — Bertolt Brecht, Carola Neher and Irina Scherbakowa meet in the Werkraum…
The dismantling of the human rights organization “International Memorial”, which was awarded the 2022 Nobel Peace Prize, is the starting point for the documentary play Memoria. Nana Grinstein interweaves interviews, court files and texts from Bertolt Brecht’s time in exile with the case file of the famous Brecht actress Carola Neher, who was also employed at the Münchner Kammerspiele and whose tragic fate was reconstructed by “International Memorial”.
“Memoria” premiered in Russia in 2022. Shortly after the premiere, Russia attacked Ukraine and “Memoria” was no longer allowed to be performed. The Russian theater director Anastasia Patlay, who has been living in exile since then, was the first artist to be a guest in the City of Augsburg’s “Artist’s at Risk Residency” program in the new artist’s apartment in the Brechthaus in 2023. She is working on a new version of “Memoria” for the Brechtfestival 2023, which is now a guest at the Münchner Kammerspiele!
