Playlist 2024
Writers' workshop for drama and opera
The Institute of Theater Studies at LMU, the Academy of Music and Theater, the Theaterakademie August Everding and the Münchner Kammerspiele present the fourth edition of “Playlist”: This year’s edition of the playwrights’ workshop for drama and opera is dedicated to political and intimate questions of the past, present and future in a thoughtful and playful way.
Under the direction of Laura Olivi, lecturer at LMU and former dramaturge at the Münchner Kammerspiele and the Residenztheater, and Tobias Schuster, dramaturge at the Münchner Kammerspiele, students of theater studies at LMU developed one-act plays and libretti in cooperation with students of composition at HMTM. Each individual project is independent in its choice of subject matter, resulting in a concentrated and original look at one topic and situation. The resulting seven works show the undisguised view of a young generation that looks at social problems and conventions with astuteness and deals with common and individual fears and dreams without losing the humor.
The mentor of this year’s Autor:innenwerkstatt is the author Enis Maci. Enis Maci is the author of the essay collection Eiscafé Europa and Karl May (together with Mazlum Nergiz) as well as a series of plays, including Mitwisser, AUTOS and WUNDER. Enis Maci’s work has received numerous awards, most recently the Max Frisch Prize of the City of Zurich. In 2022 she was a fellow at the Villa Aurora in Los Angeles.
The composers will be supervised by Prof. Moritz Eggert and Prof. Jan Müller-Wieland from the University of Music and Performing Arts Munich. The directing students of the Theaterakademie August Everding Lara Freimuth, Volodymyr Melnikov, Sergei Okunev, Laura Schinzel, Nick Tlusty and Yunus Wieacker will direct the resulting works. They will be supervised by Prof. Sebastian Baumgarten, head of the directing course. The productions will be set by Nikolai Kuchin and Yue Ying, assistant set designers at the Münchner Kammerspiele. The ensemble consists of acting students from the Theaterakademie August Everding, as well as singers and musicians from the Hochschule für Musik und Theater.
The project gives aspiring and committed young authors the opportunity to try out and find their own positions and formats. Collaboration with composers in particular opens up a creative laboratory of inspiration and interdisciplinary enrichment.
