Dance theater for ages 10 and up with Serhat Perhat and Rahät Wumaier
“The Lionheart Brothers” by Astrid Lindgren is a story about an unlikely pair of siblings that shows that it is possible to overcome boundaries and fears together. Together with the Munich break dancers and performers Serhat Perhat, who is currently part of the German Olympia Breaking squad, and Rahät Wumaier, the author Lena Gorelik developed a new text that weaves fictional elements from Lindgren’s story with autobiographical and documentary elements of the present: What doesn’t make me lose heart in a situation that seems hopeless? What gives me orientation and strength? This free interpretation of the Lionheart story is not so much about death and life afterward, but rather about the rediscovery of two brothers in the heart, in another, “second” world. Nangijala stands for the world of dancing. It’s a world full of passion for breakdancing. It’s about acquiring new skills and powers that enable the protagonists to face other difficulties. In Nangijala they are confronted with the shadows of an unjust regime and thus grapple with the challenges and gifts of their own cultural identity and family history. An empowering piece of dance theater for young people that can also touch adults and is making a unique guest appearance in the Werkraum as part of a cooperation between the Münchner Kammerspiele and the Neuperlach Pepper Theater.
