Wry songs for self-housing within precarity.
Katharina Kollmann has a voice that is hard to resist. All those who were able to experience her solo performance at the birthday gala of her label Staatsakt in October felt this. If a hair had fallen to the floor, the whole room would have noticed. But not a hair fell, because time stood still. We listened to engaging music with a melodic flow of thoughts and feelings. Along the way, we witnessed miraculous cures for some of the German pop allergy sufferers in the room.
The name Nichtseattle is a reminiscence of the song by Tocotronic. The name also functions as a metaphor for a place from which one comes or does not come. Kollmann says: “You could just as easily say non-America, non-film, non-future or not-when-they-haven’t-died.”
Kollmann has been releasing music under the name Nichtseattle since 2017. The singer-songwriter, who grew up in Berlin-Karlshorst, had previously released music in English under the name Lake Felix, but began writing music in German as Nichtseattle. After her first, self-released album “Wendekid” (2019), her second, highly acclaimed album entitled “Kommunistenlibido” was released in 2022 – for the first time on the Staatsakt label. “Frau Sein” is the name of the first single release by Nichtseattle from her new double album “HAUS”, which will be released on April 12, 2024. It contains twelve new songs that she recorded with her band and choir. Twelve new songs that she will perform on stage with her band and mostly without a choir. Twelve new songs that we are very excited about.
