“Never change a working system” – for decades, the house of Atreus has been piling guilt upon guilt and taking bloody revenge which serves to justify yet more murders. Orestes and Elektra are expected to follow in the footsteps of their ancestors and write history as the victors. The siblings, however, take a different perspective on the world: they want to overcome the rule of might being right, emancipate themselves and lead a life no longer based on subjugation. But this requires violence. And since what they want to overcome is violence itself, they are left facing a helpless dilemma.

In “Tal der Tränen”, a reworking of the Oresteia, Orestes and Elektra look back from the vantage of many years later on this major turning point in their lives. Confronted with their own memories, they ask themselves fundamental questions about guilt and responsibility, right and wrong.
