Storytelling & Music with Wangari Grace & Sven Kacirek
The culture of storytelling is as old as humanity. This Kenyan tradition is passed down from generation to generation and combines everyday stories and cultural knowledge, songs and chants. Facial expressions and body language are an elementary part of this storytelling culture. It opens the space for an intimate and interactive environment between storyteller and audience.
This workshop is about the interplay of storytelling and music.
The workshop is aimed at people of all ages who would like to combine their own short story with the tradition of storytelling. This can be autobiographical or purely fictional. The storyteller Wangari Grace will help with this. Sven Kacirek will support the lecture with live music. How does music influence or manipulate the story to be told? And what does the music do to the text?
What to expect:
- An introduction to the long tradition of storytelling by Wangari Grace - Wangari and Kacirek will introduce their joint work using the example of “Colonialism - A Musical Oral History Performance”.
- Space for reflection and feedback
- a beautiful and enriching experience
