Reading
“In the Name of”, the first work by Allex.(Liat) Fassberg that premiered at the Kammerspiele, examined state systems of forced adoptions and questioned the societal power structures that have an impact on the most intimate relationships between parents and children. The starting point of his research for “My Naked Existence” is the phenomenon of the Burnesha: those initially female attributed and raised people who, after the death of the patriarch, take on the social role of the father in their families. In Fassberg’s exploration of this practice, which has been conducted for centuries in rural Albania in particular, gender is rendered visible as a social construct. In poetic variations, Fassberg repudiates this historical custom and rethinks it for our present.
Together with kairo fumilayo edward, Sascha Malina Hoffmann is staging “My Naked Existence” for a reading at this year’s festival.
