Why, of all things, do we have a myth of rage and destruction at the heart of our self-narrative? Because the oldest and most important story of European literature, the Iliad, is not really about the Trojan War. It deals with just ten short days of the ten-year-long campaign, and everything we associate with Troy fails to appear at all: no apple, no horse, no beauty pageant. Instead, it is about the all-consuming rage of which humans are capable.
Beyond actual wars, and transcending language and national boundaries, the ensembles of the Münchner Kammerspiele and TR Warszawa evoke the well-known images of the Iliad to examine the anthropological constant that is anger: What keeps people constantly immersing themselves full of hate in the endless cycles of destruction and violence? Where does it all begin and what are the consequences?
