A simultaneous performance between West Africa and Munich by Serge Aimé Coulibaly, Jan-Christoph Gockel & Ensemble (UA)
Directed by: Serge Aimé Coulibaly, Jan-Christoph Gockel
A statue of the 12th century West African princess Yennenga comes to life in the basement of a Munich ethnological museum and wants to return home. An Afronaut from the future, who has quit her job as a post-colonial ghost hunter, dreams of the princess and uses every technology to try and contact Yennenga’s homeland.
After the successful first series of performances in October 2022, we will again play four exclusive performances in May 2023, connecting the Kammerspiele live with players and audiences in West Africa. This time, our partner theaters are located in Bobo-Dioulasso (May 4 & 5) and in Ouagadougou (May 9 & 10). The ensemble plays in both places at the same time, is in contact via a live camera. Joint theater over a distance of 4,000 km.
The evening is a loose sequel to the production “Wir Schwarzen müssen zusammenhalten – Eine Erwiderung” (“We Blacks Must Stick Together – A Rejoinder”) and is the first directorial collaboration between the renowned Burkinabe choreographer Serge Aimé Coulibaly and Jan-Christoph Gockel, in-house director at the Münchner Kammerspiele.
Please note: The audience is partially filmed during the performances. This is only for live transmission to the venues and the audience in West Africa and will not be recorded.
