Katja Brunner

Katja Brunner was born in Zürich in 1991. She was a pupil at the Literargymnasium Rämibühl and studied at the Swiss Institute for Literature in Biel, later at the University of Arts in Berlin (scenic writing). In 2012, just eighteen years old, she attracted attention for the first time: Within the framework of the authors’ project “Dramenprozessor” at the Zürich Theater an der Winkelwiese, the play “Von den Beinen zu kurz” originated (first performance March 31, 2012) – a text about sexual abuse from the viewpoint of the victim. The following second staging of the drama in Hannover was included in the 2013 program of the Mülheimer Theaterfestival. Katja Brunner was subsequently honored with the Mülheimer Dramatikerpreis. In the critics’ survey of the magazine “Theater heute” she was elected “Emerging Author of the Year 2013”. Before this her play “die hölle ist auch nur eine sauna” was invited to the Heidelberger Stückemarkt. During the 2014/15 season Katja Brunner was in-house author at the Theater Luzern. She also performs on stage and her readings are frequently free-floating performances involving musicians, friends, tinkerers and nerds, survival artists and other authors.

Presently Katja Brunner is writing a play for the Münchner Kammerspiele, which is to be completed by the 2016/17 season.
