Josef Bierbichler

Josef Bierbichler was born at Lake Starnberg in 1948. He received his training in dramatic art at the Otto-Falckenberg School in Munich. Since the early 1970s he has appeared as theater actor on all renowned stages in Germany, Austria and Switzerland. He is also famous for numerous roles in movies, where he cooperated with directors such as Werner Herzog, Herbert Achternbusch, Tom Tykwer, Michael Haneke, and many others. For his roles he has been honored with all important awards. In addition to his work as actor, Bierbichler is also a dedicated writer and published his novel “Verfluchtes Fleisch” in 2001. In 2011 his novel “Mittelreich” appeared which presents German history in the mirror of a Bavarian village over three generations. It is a 20th century saga marked by the repercussions of war as well as repression and denial.
