​Herbert Achternbusch

Herbert Achternbusch, born in Munich in 1938, works as painter as well as writer and since his first movie “Das Andechser Gefühl” (1974) also as filmmaker. In 1975 he was awarded the Ludwig-Thoma medal of the City of Munich; in addition to other numerous prizes, he was twice honored with the Mülheimer Dramatikerpreis: in 1986 for “Gust” and in 1994 for “Der Stiefel und sein Socken”, a play that was first performed at the Münchner Kammerspiele. Today Herbert Achternbusch lives in Munich and in Lower Austria.
Herbert Achternbusch has been linked to the Münchner Kammerspiele for a long time. A great number of his plays were first performed here, mostly under his own direction: “Weg” (1985), “Linz” (1987), “Auf verlorenem Posten” (1990), “Der Stiefel und sein Socken” (1993), “Letzter Gast” (directed by: Alexander Lang, 1996), “Meine Grabinschrift” (1996) and “Dulce est” (1998). During the 2001/02 season he directed the first performance of his play “Daphne von Andechs”, which was staged on the occasion of the opening of the Neue Haus der Münchner Kammerspiele. Currently his play “Susn” (1980) directed by Thomas Ostermeier is on the program.
