The German-English performance collective Gob Squad create performances and videos which seek beauty in everyday life, utopia in the trivial and truth in entertainment – and vice versa. Gob Squad produce pop and thus operate at the interfaces of theater, art, media and life. They work in the gallery as well as in the theater or right on the street. Gob Squad perceive themselves as artists’ collective which jointly develops all productions by means of non-hierarchic work processes. The core of the group is formed by Johanna Freiburg, Sean Patten, Sharon Smith, Berit Stumpf, Sarah Thom, Bastian Trost and Simon Will. For individual projects additional collaborators join the group. Gob Squad were founded in Nottingham in 1994 and now reside in Berlin. Their productions take them all over the world. Their staging of “Before your very eyes” was invited to the Berliner Theatertreffen in 2012; in the same year “Gob Squad’s Kitchen” was presented the “Drama Desk Award” in New York. Presently they are touring Europe and the world with their production “Western Society”.
For “War and Peace”, their first production at the Münchner Kammerspiele, they will work with the ensemble to deal with our view of the global conflicts in this world.
