Barbara Ehnes


Barbara Ehnes studied visual arts in Amsterdam and Hamburg, stage design with Wilfried Minks and Marina Abramović at the Hamburg University for Fine Arts as well as drama and literature at the Hamburg University. Since 2001 she has regularly cooperated with director Stefan Pucher. Some of their works have been invited to the Berliner Theatertreffen, including in 2008 “The Tempest”, in 2005 “Othello” and “Homo faber” as well as in 2003 “Richard III”. Her artistic companions have been Stefan Bachmann, Sebastian Baumgarten, Calixto Bieito, Schorsch Kamerun, Lars-Ole Walburg, Jossi Wieler/Sergio Morabito and choreographer Meg Stuart, just to name a few. Barbara Ehnes has worked at many German and international theaters. In recent years she has repeatedly created her own performances and installations, such as in 2009 “Istanbul Transgelinler” and “Die schwarze Botin – remastered and remistressed 2013” at the Wiener Festwochen. Several times her works were represented at Matthias Lilienthal’s project “X Apartments”. From 2001 to 2009 she was a member of the artistic management team under the direction of Frank Baumbauer at the Münchner Kammerspiele. In 2005 she was awarded the German stage prize “Opus”. Together with Chris Kondek she was honored with the German theater award “Der Faust” in 2012. Since 2011 Barbara Ehnes has worked as professor at the Dresden University for Fine Arts.
