Schule macht Erinnerung

How we became who we are. A festival dedicated to remembrance, research and shaping the future in school theatre
11–14 June 2026

Schule macht Erinnerung

How does history become the future? From 11 to 14 June 2026, the Therese-Giehse-Halle will be transformed into a laboratory for experimental school theatre, translating historical investigations into bold and creative forms of expression.

In times of social upheaval, five school theatre groups and the Münchner Kammerspiele are searching for traces of the past in the present. The festival also makes use of the Schauburg Labor in Ramersdorf for intensive workshop phases and offers debriefings and open opportunities for spontaneous networking and creative experimentation. A ‘base camp’ on a rehearsal stage serves as a central hub for exchange between all participants.

The participating ensembles shed light on a diverse range of facets: from individual biographies and youth resistance to the examination of power structures and questions of identity. In the overall presentation of all the plays, dance, performance and documentary theatre combine to form a polyphonic response to the challenges of our time. Each project contributes to understanding history not as a closed chapter, but as a living mission. This creates a communal space where, from the weight of history, courageous visions for an inclusive ‘we’ emerge – active, exploratory and deeply human.
