Diamant

by Fadime Gültekin

Habibi means ‘my precious’ or ‘my darling’. In this context, the Habibi Kiosk is, in the truest sense of the word, a TREASURE.

It’s a place I love to visit again and again – because each time, I hear stories and learn about perspectives and life situations that are completely different to anything I know from my everyday life.

I learn. I observe. I listen. I feel.

It’s an exchange, a coming together; it’s diverse, colourful and authentic.

Strictly speaking, I’m a music fan … but thanks to the Habibi Kiosk, I’ve discovered a love and passion for theatre and art, too.

And I have to say that, since then, I’ve become very active in the theatre world myself. The insights and experiences I’ve gained at the Habibi Kiosk are PRICELESS.

To me, the Habibi Kiosk represents a successful form of ‘social inclusion’ (by the way: ‘social inclusion’ is a term I only just recently learned … shhh, don’t tell anyone!).

For example: we all know that feeling you get just before Christmas. The stress … you feel totally frazzled, or perhaps a sense of loneliness is creeping in. That’s when the Habibis host their Record Dinner which brings together people who don’t know each other at all. You sit together, you eat and listen to records. In the background, DJs share stories about the music. Suddenly, the room is filled with a beautiful warmth and familial atmosphere. Those feelings of loneliness and stress simply vanish into thin air. And all at once, everyone starts chatting to each other … just like at a real family gathering. Not everyone shares the same opinions, but you feel, you listen, you observe and you learn. Abracadabra! The Habibi Kiosk magic has cast its spell on us all.

We need more of this.
I hug you and kiss your eyes,
