Ars Moriendi

Participants wanted for digital sculpture in public space by Gregor Schneider on the themes of "Farewell" and "Dying".

The Münchner Kammerspiele is developing a new project in public space entitled ARS MORIENDI together with the artist Gregor Schneider on the topics of “farewell” and “dying”. They are looking for participants from Munich who are coming to terms with the end of their own lives due to old age or terminal illness. The project is designed to run for several years, so participation is possible at any time.

What do the participants have to do?

  • The participants choose a location in the city center of Munich where they would like to have their virtual figure placed.
  • In order to create the virtual figure on the computer, all participants must have their photo taken. The photos are taken in a Munich photo studio, to which the participants travel independently if possible. The photography process only takes a few seconds. An appointment will be arranged in advance by e-mail.
  • In addition, a short audio recording of the participants is made during the photo session, which is later played back on the smartphone when the virtual figure is viewed. The content of the personal message can be general advice for younger generations or an explanation of why the figure is in this particular location.
